It's an astonishing and beautiful idea, that the unseen exists, a world just beyond our reach. Five years ago Rory MacLean set out on a path with no idea where it would lead or how long it would take, and no idea that it would change his life forever. He traced humanity's ideas of the afterlife across history and around the globe, seeking out the places where the veil is thin: he spent a night on Jacob's Rock, watched gods walk on fire in Kerala, sundanced with the Lakota on the Great Plains and laid his hand on the stepping stone to another world at Jerusalem's Temple Mount. In Delhi he was told the universe would keep sending loving souls to guide him, and it did, until, in five truly inexplicable moments, Katrin was beside him.
Geography of Heaven: Travels to the Hereafter is the story of that journey, held together by the latest neuroscience on grief, and it is a travel book like no other, one that leaves you with the feeling that none of us are created for naught. Rory will be in conversation with photographer, author and women's rights champion My-Linh Kunst, and we're so pleased to be sharing this evening with the American Women's Club of Berlin.
