From Draft to Direction: A Writing Course with Celina Baljeet Basra

Perhaps you have an idea, a voice, even chapters and chapters of work, but somewhere between that first burst of inspiration and a finished manuscript comes the question of where to go from here. That is exactly where our writing course begins, and we're so pleased to be welcoming back Berlin-based novelist Celina Baljeet Basra for its second edition, though there are just a few spaces left, so do get in touch soon if you'd like to join us.

Designed for writers who already have words on the page, these six Tuesday evenings around our table give your writing the time, attention and thoughtful conversation it deserves. Celina will guide you through questions of voice, structure and the art of sustaining a piece of work, helping you recognise what your writing is becoming, trust your instincts and find the confidence to take it further in the company of other writers. Sharmaine will join the opening and closing sessions to share her perspective on the journey from manuscript to published book.

About Celina Baljeet Basra: Celina is a Berlin-based novelist, interdisciplinary curator and art historian. Her debut novel, HAPPY, was published by Astra House in 2023 and selected as a New York Times Editors' Choice.

Whether you're wrestling with a novel, shaping a collection of stories or working on something that doesn't yet have a name, we'd love to have you with us. To register, email bookshop@chaptersberlin.com with the subject line "Draft to Direction", and do write or ask for a call if you have any questions. Registration closes on 27 October.
